Simply apply this inexpensive filler into the cracks to seal. Caulking is a sealant that fills gaps cracks nail holes and similar imperfections on the surface. It cleans up quickly with water and has silicone additives for improved adhesion greater flexibility and reduced shrinking for long lasting durability. Siding caulk can be used on several different areas of your exterior siding to help prevent water damage and moisture buildup.

Two appropriate products are polyurethane and solvent based caulk. Use around sinks tubs and showers. Seal small cracks and gaps in your siding under 1 4 inch wide using an acrylic latex caulk. Use when installing bath fixtures to seal gaps between shower tiles between sinks and counters and around the base of the toilet.

Sealing for natural weathering if you prefer weathered cedar s grey color but want a more uniform color than what comes naturally you can seal the cedar using bleaching oils. In other words caulking is applied where moisture would otherwise penetrate and cause deterioration. Cover as much of the wood as you can with sealant using a small brush to get into the spaces between panels if the siding is already installed. Seal the panels with semi gloss or satin paint in an oil or alkyd base as translucent sealers are not appropriate for composite siding.

Some of the most commonly caulked areas of siding include both corners and crevices as well as some butt joints and window and door trim boards. Lp siding requires flexible exterior grade paintable caulk to seal gaps. This caulk offers a 100 waterproof seal that is easy to apply and emits low odor.
